UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan last night [Oct 4] rejected the Indian contention that the Security Council resolutions on Kashmir had become obsolete and said the fact that the people of the disputed state have not so far been allowed to exercise the right to self-determination in no way affected the validity of that right. “Nor is it open to any party to claim that those resolutions have become “obsolete” only because one or the other party has been obstructing their implementation”, Additional Foreign Secretary Niaz A. Naik, told the 145-member General Assembly. He was exercising the right of reply to the speech on Monday morning [Oct 1] by Indian Foreign Minister Y.B. Chavan in the plenary session that the Council resolutions of 1948 and 1949 were not implemented at that time because Pakistan did not fulfil certain preconditions. — News agencies
