LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum on Monday summoned Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Abdul Karim over the failure of police to recover an abducted girl.
The chief justice, hearing a petition filed by a woman, Sadia Hassan, expressed displeasure over the police department’s performance and their failure to recover the girl.
During the hearing, Faisalabad City Police Officer (CPO) Tanvir Hussain appeared before the court.
An assistant advocate general submitted a progress report on behalf of the police.
However, the chief justice expressed her displeasure over the police’s failure to trace and recover the missing girl.
She also rejected a request by the petitioner’s counsel to withdraw the petition.
“Whenever a senior police officer is summoned in a case, a request is made to withdraw the petition,” Chief Justice Neelum observed, clarifying that the petition would not be allowed to be withdrawn.
She directed the inspector general of police to appear in person before the court on Tuesday (today) and explain the police’s failure to recover the girl.
