SAHIWAL: A youth was shot at and critically injured allegedly by a bridegroom and his wedding guests when he tried to stop them from resorting to aerial firing during a Mehndi ceremony at village 100/AWM.

Reports said Saqlain, son of Ghulam Haider, was scheduled to get married on Sunday, while his Mehndi ceremony was held on Saturday night. On the occasion, Nadeem, Tanveer, Qadeem, Saleem, Saqlain and Ghulam Haider allegedly resorted to aerial firing.

Sarwar’s son Muzammil, a neighbour, objected to the heavy aerial firing. During an exchange of hot words, Ghulam Haider and his companions allegedly threatened him with death and forcibly silenced him.

The following morning, when the wedding procession was leaving the village, groom’s brother Saleem allegedly fired directly at Muzammil with a pistol while he was working in the fields. The other suspect also allegedly opened fire before leaving with the procession.

Muzammil sustained a bullet wound to the chest, fell unconscious and was shifted to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital in a critical condition.

Later, Harappa police registered a case under Sections 324, 148, 149 and 506 of the PPC against the groom, his father and six brothers on the complaint of Sarwar.

INJURED: A salesman was shot at and injured by two dacoits after he allegedly offered resistance during a robbery attempt near village 187/9-L on Sunday night.

Yasir worked as a salesman for a candies company and used a three-wheeler for his work. He was on his way home when two dacoits intercepted him and attempted to rob him.
