KARACHI: Mahatir Mohammad and Farhan Altaf advanced in the men’s singles event of the 23rd Westbury National Juniors and Seniors Tennis Championship at Karachi Club on Monday.

Mahatir defeated Suleman Rafiq 8-4 in the first round before beating Bilal Soomro 8-0 in the quarter-final, while Farhan overcame Wajid Khatak 8-2.

Ruhab Faisal also began his campaign with an 8-0 victory over Kazim Shabbir.

In the junior events, Umer Zaman, Zohha Imad, Reeha, Alina Rizwan and Shanaya Sheikh reco­rded victories on Monday, while the previous day’s programme saw Yahya Haleem, Mikael Asad, Syed Sufyan, Naayel Sohaib, Rayyan Jahangir and Hamza Sattar among those advancing.

Boys U-12 singles: Ayan Essa Jee bt Aadam 4-1, 4-1; Naayel Sohaib bt Ebrahim Godil 4-1, 4-1; Mikael Asad bt Ali Zamin 4-5, 4-1, 4-2; Rahim Faisal bt Izyaan Raheel 4-0, 4-0; Quarter-final: Umer Zaman bt Ayan Essa Jee 4-0, 5-3.

U-10 singles, quarter-finals: Rayyan Jahangir bt Ibrahim Zaman 4-2, 3-5, 4-2; Hamza Sattar bt Sophie Allawala 4-0, 4-1.

Girls U-18 singles: Zohha Imad bt Alina Sheikh 6-1, 6-1.
