LARKANA: A new treatment centre for HIV and AIDS patients was formally inaugurated at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Qambar, under the supervision of the Sindh health department and the HIV and AIDS Control Programme on Monday.
The centre will offer patients a range of medical services, including diagnosis, treatment, nutritional support and social assistance.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Medical Superintendent Dr Abrar Hussain Tunio. Additional medical superintendents Dr Saeed Ahmed Brohi and Dr Ghulam Mustafa Tunio and concerned officials attended the event.
Briefing the gathering, deputy director of the Sindh HIV and AIDS Control Programme, Dr Ghulam Ali Bozdar, said that trained staff had been deployed at the newly-established centre to provide patients with better medical care. He said every possible support would be extended to make it a standard and model treatment centre for Sindh. Dr Masood Ahmed Soomro was tasked with overseeing the centre’s administration, treatment and facilities.
Dr Abrar Hussain Tunio and Dr Ghulam Mustafa Tunio said District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Qambar provided medical services not only to people of the district but also to patients from neighbouring areas and Balochistan.
They said the new centre would be an important facility, allowing patients to receive treatment close to home. They added that joint efforts were needed to prevent HIV and AIDS, ensure timely diagnosis and treatment, and stop mother-to-child transmission.
