BADIN: Police said they arrested a six-member gang of robbers after an exchange of fire near Chakar Branch on Gulab Laghari Road in Tando Ghulam Ali, in which one suspect was injured, officials said.

Tando Ghulam Ali SHO Inspector Ashiq Ali Lund and his team were on routine patrol when they spotted six men in an Alto car and signalled them to stop, police said. The suspects opened fire, and the police party returned fire, they said.

One suspect, identified as Ehsan Memon Rajput, was injured and arrested. Five others, named as Muhammad Shamir, Muhammad Yousuf, Abdul Ghafur, Nadir Ali and Muhammad Mureed, were also taken into custody.

Police said they recovered three unlicensed pistols with ammunition, Rs125,500 in cash, gold and silver jewellery and foreign currency from the suspects.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the cash, jewellery and foreign currency had been stolen in a robbery at the house of Abdul Rasheed Rajput in Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Mirpurkhas district, police said.

Cases have been registered against the suspects at Tando Ghulam Ali police station. Police said they were investigating whether the men were involved in other robberies and trying to identify any accomplices.
