RAWALPINDI: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has renovated and upgraded its regional centre at Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU), strengthening the longstanding academic and institutional collaboration between the two universities.

The renovated facility was formally inaugurated on Monday by RMU Vice Chancellor retired Prof Maj Gen Suhail Amin at a ceremony attended by representatives of UHS and RMU.

The regional centre serves as an important point of contact for students enrolled with UHS, alumni of Rawalpindi Medical College and colleges affiliated with UHS in the region. It also provides a vital coordination link between UHS, RMU and affiliated institutions, facilitating academic and administrative matters for students, graduates and institutions.

The upgraded centre has been provided with an improved working environment and modernised facilities to enable UHS representatives to deal with academic, administrative and student-related matters more efficiently.

The improved setup is expected to make the centre more accessible and convenient for students, alumni, affiliated colleges and other stakeholders who require UHS-related services in Rawalpindi and adjoining areas.

The renovation was undertaken in line with the vision of the RMU administration’s commitment to providing appropriate institutional support and strengthening meaningful cooperation with UHS. The initiative also underscores RMU’s emphasis on facilitating students and affiliated institutions and creating an enabling environment for academic and administrative coordination.

Speaking on the occasion, participants highlighted the cordial and longstanding relationship between UHS and RMU and noted that both institutions had consistently collaborated in matters concerning medical education, examinations and academic administration.

The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026 was cited as a recent example of this effective institutional coordination. Teams from UHS and RMU worked closely with the district administration and other stakeholders to facilitate the smooth and well-organised conduct of the examination at the designated centres in Rawalpindi.

The coordinated efforts contributed to the effective management of the examination and ensured that candidates and their accompanying parents and attendants were provided with appropriate facilities.

UHS Regional Coordinator Basil Sajjad expressed his appreciation to the RMU vice chancellor and the university administration for their continued cooperation and support.

He said the upgraded regional centre would significantly enhance the capacity of UHS to facilitate students, alumni and affiliated colleges in the region and would further strengthen coordination between the two institutions.

Mr Sajjad also acknowledged the support extended by RMU during various UHS-related academic and examination activities, particularly the recent MDCAT.

He appreciated the efforts of the RMU administration in ensuring effective coordination and facilitating the UHS team in the discharge of its responsibilities.

The RMU vice chancellor expressed the hope that the longstanding relationship between the two institutions would be further strengthened in coming days.

He said that under the leadership of the new vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences retired Prof Maj Gen Suhail Sabir, the existing ties between UHS and RMU would be further consolidated with greater opportunities for academic cooperation, institutional coordination and facilitation of students and affiliated institutions.
