
ISLAMABAD: A stage drama on the historical figure of the Indian subcontinent Amir Khusro captivated the audience and received a standing ovation.
Presented by Dolphin Communication at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Monday, the stage play received an enthusiastic response from the audience who applauded director Asma Butt, writer Arshad Chahal and the entire cast for their outstanding performance.
Renowned writer and director and chief executive of Dolphin Communication Asma Butt is known for bringing historic figures and the rich Sufi and literary heritage of the subcontinent to the stage.
Throughout the play, the performers received applause for their powerful acting, dialogues and overall presentation. Dolphin Communication also earned the distinction of presenting this unique subject on stage in this manner for the first time in Pakistan and India.
With the production, Asma Butt has further advanced her tradition of bringing historical and cultural subjects to the stage through contemporary artistic expression.
Talking about the drama Asma Butt said Hazrat Amir Khusro was a great Sufi, poet and prominent figure in the musical heritage of the subcontinent.
A disciple of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya made a profound contribution to the literary and cultural traditions of the region through Persian and Hindavi poetry.
His mystical poetry remains an integral part of the tradition of Qawali and music.
Thanking the guests, Asma Butt recalled that while presenting her play Shah Hussain Madholal in India, she had the opportunity to visit the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya.
Hearing the mystical poetry of Amir Khusro strengthened her resolve to bring his life and artistic legacy to the stage. She said Amir Khusro was the result of a collective effort and that taking historical and cultural figures to the younger generation was a responsibility she deeply valued.
