ISLAMABAD: Acting Senate Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar has paid tributes to teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to educating and guiding future generations.
In his message, the acting chairman said teachers played a vital role in nurturing knowledge, discipline, confidence and a sense of responsibility among young people. He emphasised that the progress of any society was closely linked to the quality of its education and the dedication of its teachers.
Syedaal Khan Nasar said Pakistan needed an education system that equipped students with knowledge, critical thinking and skills required to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
He stressed the importance of providing teachers with modern educational resources, professional development opportunities and a conducive working environment.
He further said the growing use of technology had transformed the educational landscape, making it essential to enhance teachers’ capacity to effectively utilise modern teaching methods and digital tools.
The acting Senate chairman also called for greater attention to the welfare and legitimate concerns of teachers, saying that their dignity, respect and well-being must remain a priority.
Syedaal Khan Nasar appreciated the dedication and services of teachers across the country and expressed the hope that their continued efforts would contribute significantly towards building an educated, responsible and progressive Pakistan.
On the other hand, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General Javed Iqbal Mirza said teaching should not merely be treated as a profession but as a noble mission of developing character, values and responsible citizens.
He was speaking at the World Teachers’ Day event at Islamabad College for Girls (ICG), F-6/2, under the theme, ‘My Teacher, My Pride’.
The event was organised by the FDE to commemorate World Teachers’ Day and to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication, commitment and invaluable contribution of teachers towards education and character-building of generations.
Besides DG FDE, the ceremony was also attended by Director Academics FDE Riffat Jabeen, senior officers of FDE, area education officers, principals, heads of departments and faculty members of ICG and other model colleges of Islamabad.
The DG FDE emphasised that teachers do much more than impart knowledge; they inspire curiosity, nurture confidence, inculcate discipline and help young people discover their potential.
Mr Mirza highlighted that in an era of rapid technological transformation, artificial intelligence and changing skill requirements, the role of a teacher had become even more important.
“While technology can facilitate access to information it cannot replace the human connection, mentorship, moral guidance and sense of purpose that a committed teacher provides,” he said, calling upon teachers to uphold the highest standards of professional commitment and integrity.
He stressed that appreciation of teachers should not remain confined to an annual celebration but must be reflected in institutional policies, priorities and everyday professional practices.
He also urged students to honour their teachers not merely through academic achievement but through character, integrity, respect, responsibility and positive contribution to society.
Meanwhile, students highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in shaping individuals and society.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Academics FDE Riffat Jabeen appreciated the principal, faculty and students of ICG for organising the event and commended their dedication, creativity and meticulous arrangements.
A particularly moving segment of the ceremony was the screening of a testimonial video featuring ICG alumni, including professionals from diverse fields, who expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the teachers and mentors who had influenced their lives. The celebration also included a cake-cutting ceremony symbolising the affection, respect and enduring bond between students and their teachers.
