KARACHI: A suspected carjacker was killed in an alleged encounter in Shah Faisal Colony on Sunday, police said.

The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of police said that the law enforcers signalled a car to stop but the driver tried to speed away and his accomplices opened fire.

In retaliatory fire, one suspect was killed on the spot while his two accomplices managed to escape, they added.

The police claimed to have recovered an unlicensed pistol and a car stolen from Saeedabad from his custody.

A spokesperson for the AVLC identified the deceased as Dur Mohammed Brohi.

He said the deceased had been involved in car-snatching cases for the last 19 years. He had been arrested seven times and there were 47 criminal cases against him.

Meanwhile, a young man was shot dead allegedly by his friends in the Manghopir area on Sunday, police and rescue services officials said.

Area SHO Shaukat Ali Awan said that a quarrel broke out among some friends who had gone for “picnic” at a stream in the area. Quoting a watchman posted at the place, the SHO said that after a heated argument, a 20-year-old man was shot dead. The suspects and their accomplices escaped from the spot after the killing.
