HYDERABAD: The Sindh University on Sunday completed the first phase of the pre-entry test for admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes for the academic year 2027, with 8,676 male and female candidates from various districts of Sindh appearing for the test.

Elaborate arrangements were made for the convenience of candidates, along with strict security measures at the test venues.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Institute of Arts and Design, Vice Chancellor SU Prof Dr Fateh Mohammad Mari welcomed the candidates who appeared for the test and said the increasing number of candidates seeking admission each year was proof of the trust placed in SU by them and their parents.

He shared that a total of 22,511 candidates had applied online for both phases, including 16,237 male and 6,274 female candidates. He said a total of 8,676 candidates were appearing in the first phase, including 6,857 male and 1,819 female candidates.

He said the test was conducted in two phases to facilitate candidates and improve arrangements.

In the first phase, he said, candidates from distant districts were given the opportunity to appear for the test, while candidates from nearby districts would take the test in the second phase. Candidates seeking admission to different campuses were also provided with the opportunity to take the test at their respective campuses.

In the first phase, candidates from Karachi, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Larkana, Kambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Khairpur, Matiari, Naushahro Feroze, Shikarpur and Sukkur appeared for the test.

The VC said SU had its own Testing Centre, which had been conducting entry tests with utmost transparency and complete confidentiality for several years and announcing the results on the same day.

The entire test process was computerised and the system would prepare results according to the papers attempted by the candidates, leaving no room whatsoever for injustice, he added.

He said measures had been taken to improve the university’s academic standards and formulate future strategies and that candidates appearing for the test and their parents must have complete confidence that the entire admission process was based on transparency and merit, and that every candidate would be granted admission strictly according to the merit achieved.

The VC appreciated the efforts and commitment of the conveners of the committees formed to make arrangements for the test. He stressed the need to play a collective role in enhancing the reputation and development of these institutions.

The test started at 10am and concluded at 11:30am.
