TAXILA: The body of police constable Zain Abbas, who reportedly drowned while performing security duty in Attock in connection with the PTI march, was recovered from the Brotha Lake section of the Ghazi Barotha Canal on Saturday after eight days, police sources said.

Constable Zain Abbas was deployed at Kotkay in Hazro tehsil for security duty. According to police sources, he reportedly went down towards the canal bank to collect water when he slipped and fell into the canal.

He was swept into deep water and drowned.

The deceased constable belonged to Mandi Bahauddin district and had been deployed in Attock as part of the security arrangements for the protest march.

Following the incident, police officials and relevant emergency agencies launched a search operation.

His body was eventually recovered from the Brotha Lake area on Saturday and shifted to a hospital for necessary legal and medico-legal procedures.

The incident comes amid the deployment of a large number of police personnel in Attock for security duties related to the political march.
