HYDERABAD, July 26: Protest demonstrations and hunger strikes by teachers against the ban on teachers’ and employees’ associations continued in the district headquarters of Sindh.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Asad Durrani, spokesman for the Sindh Employees Alliance, said that dismissals of leaders of the alliance, suspensions and arrests would not stem the tide of their struggle.

He said that the statement of the Sindh education minister had caused resentment among teachers and aggravated the situation.

He said that the education minister and her advisers would be responsible for the consequences.

He called upon teachers and employees to remain steadfast and warned officials of the education ministry that should not obey illegal orders of the education minister. The teachers staged a protest demonstration outside the press club and raised slogans against the ban on the associations.

Zaheer Mirza, Abdul Aziz, Syed Jani Shah and Ali Ahmed Leghari said that the struggle would not be called off unless the notification banning associations was withdrawn and demands of the SEA were accepted.

Protest demonstrations by the SEA were also held in Tando Allahyar and Tando Mohammad Khan.

KHAIRPUR: A large number of teachers belonging to various teachers’ unions observed a token hunger strike at the hunger strike camp set up at the Chhatti chowk.

They were protesting against ban on teachers’ organisations.

SHIKARPUR: A token hunger strike was observed by members of the Sindh Employees Alliance outside the press club in protest against the imposition of ban on teachers’ associations by the Sindh government.

Rashid Ali Shah, Ghulam Rasool and Haji Abdul Fatah led the teachers.

The teachers also took out a procession in the city.

The SEA leaders demanded withdrawal of ban on teachers associations and release of their leaders.

MIRPURKHAS: Activists of the Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA) staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday at the Bhurgari Primary School to protest against the Sindh government’s ban on associations and termination of SEA chairman Rafique Jarwar from service.

More than 100 activists of SEA components, Primary Teachers Association, MATA, GSTA and Lower Staff Association, wore black armbands as a mark of protest and demanded that the government withdraw its decision.

SEA vice-chairman Hussain Bux Khamisani said that the government had violated the Constitution by imposing ban on associations and warned that teachers would not accept what he called the government’s illegal decision.

He deplored that the government had forcibly retired the alliance’s chairman and alleged that the provincial secretary of education who was involved in illegal acts was trying to cover up his own crimes by misguiding the government.
