KARACHI, July 26: A 70-ton girder of an interchange, being constructed at the traffic intersection of Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi Road and Ibrahim Rahimtoola Road, plunged on Tuesday night when it was being placed on two side pillars.

However, nobody was harmed as no worker or official was present close to the scene of the incident at that time, a spokesman for the city government said.

He maintained that the mishap occurred as the heavy girder got unbalanced during the course of being lifted by two cranes. The motorists passing through the diversionary route said there was a big bang which scared them as the girder plunged.
