Six arrested for online scams, human trafficking

LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Multan zone, on Friday arrested six suspects involved in cyber fraud and financial scams, illegal money exchange and human trafficking across Punjab.

The NCCIA arrested one Shahryar in Lodhran district.

According to the agency, the suspect had allegedly defrauded a citizen of Rs653,200 by promising to arrange a prize and donation. He posed as a customs officer and used fake contacts linked to a marriage-related matter to persuade the complainant to transfer money.

The suspect’s mobile phone contained a fake WhatsApp account, chats related to financial fraud and videos showing methods allegedly used to deceive people while concealing his identity.

In Faisalabad, the NCCIA arrested Sunil Amin and Usman Ali for their alleged involvement in financial fraud through bank accounts. The operation led to the recovery of 17 mobile phones, 81 ATM cards and 195 SIM cards. The suspects allegedly used the identities of different individuals and representatives of public and private institutions to persuade the citizens to send them money. The FIA arrested three suspects in separate raids in Dera Ghazi Khan for human smuggling and illegal hundi/hawala business.

According to the agency, Muhammad Nadeem of tehsil Jatoi, Muzaffargarh, was arrested as he had taken Rs756,500 from complainant Karamat Elahi of Alipur for sending three of his relatives to Canada on employment visas but failed to fulfil the promise.

In separate operations, the FIA, Dera Ghazi Khan circle, arrested two alleged hundi/hawala operators from Paigaan.

During a raid on Rizwan Traders, the officials arrested Ghulam Asghar and recovered Rs20,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a list allegedly containing hundi/hawala transactions.

In another raid on Huzaifa Mobile Shop in Paigaan, the FIA arrested Muhammad Huzaifa, a resident of Kot Chutta, and recovered Rs51,500, a mobile phone and another alleged hundi/hawala list from him.
