MOHMAND: Heavy downpour coupled with windstorm lashed various parts of Mohmand district early on Monday morning.

The heavy rain, with hailstones in some areas, caused flooding in mountainous streams and rain water also accumulated in low-lying areas.

The flood water entered the houses in Aqreb Dag area of Yakaghund tehsil causing difficulties for local residents. Several link roads were also damaged and blocked due to the flash flood, affecting movement of commuters.

The absence of a bridge on a road in Khwaja Was Kor Bezogan has compounded difficulties of residents as the flow of floodwater has cut off their land link with other areas. Children, elderly people, patients and others faced problems crossing the flooded road at various points.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the affected areas after receiving information and launched relief operations. District Emergency Officer Engineer Khaliq Dad was supervising the rescue work. The flood water has also increased water level in Chanda Barani Dam and Ghalanai Dam. However, no loss of life has so far been reported in the district.
