MANSEHRA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated rehabilitation of roads and tracks washed away during the recent floods in the Kaghan and Manoor valleys of the district.

“I have approved special funds and started the clearance of tracks and arteries swept away in parts of Manoor and Kaghan valleys, connecting wide stretches to the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road,” Munir Hussain Lughmani, MPA from Balakot tehsil, told reporters on Saturday.

He said that people of dozens of villages and mountainous stretches in both valleys were adversely suffering the brunt of the floods triggered by monsoon rains and could not even shift their patients to health facilities.

“We have rebuilt the Rati Galli alternative track to provide travelling facilities to the widely spread population and tourists as the Rati Galli Lake track was washed away in Barawai,” Mr Lughmani said.

He said that people of the Barawai area had approached him, seeking reconstruction of the track and work had been started to ensure the construction of an alternative track.

“With the construction of the alternative track, tourists could now visit different lakes in the valley and explore such areas still off the eyes of nature lovers,” Mr Lughmani said.

He said that the upper part of Kaghan Valley was famous for high-quality pea and tomato production and that, with the construction of alternative tracks and rehabilitation of arteries, farmers could easily transport their produce to markets in Hazara and the rest of the country.

“The Manoor Valley is also heaven on earth and execution of the central road, with over Rs600 million, is well under way, but the tracks that were washed away along the streams are being built alternatively or rehabilitated to provide people with travelling facilities,” Mr Lughmani said.
