KARACHI, July 24: A man Kamran, 25, was killed and six others were injured after a portion of a dilapidated building collapsed in the Bihar Colony area on Monday.

Police and Fire Brigade sources said that the ground-plus-one Haji Mohammad Building, collapsed because of its bad maintenance. Seven people were trapped in the building’s rubble. Fire Brigade officials and other volunteers rescued six of them and shifted them to the Lyari General Hospital. All the injured were later shifted to the Civil Hospital.

Officials said that the building was built without permission from the relevant authority.

SHOOTOUT: A suspected robber was killed and two of his accomplices fled after what the police claimed to have been an encounter in the jurisdiction of the Mithadar police station on Monday.

Police said that a police mobile had been dispatched to investigate after an electronic alarm had gone off in the Uni Centre at around 4:15am. They said that they chased three suspects, who were trying to loot a mobile phone shop, and after seeing the police mobile were trying to escape. They said that the police personnel were fired upon by the criminals, adding that the police also returned fire, killing one of the suspects.

DROWNING: A man’s body packed in a trunk was found in the sea near Ghasbandar in the Keamari area on Monday.

Police identified the man as Abdul Ghaffar, 42, and a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal. They said that the Bengali-speaking victim had been missing since July 21.
