KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to seek approval from the provincial cabinet for the projects of establishing a logistics park and purchasing 500 electric vehicle (EV) buses, said a statement issued on Thursday.

In this regard, a meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Board was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Issues related to the expansion of the mass transit system in the province, promotion of modern and eco-friendly public transport, establishment of a logistics park, purchase of EV buses, and other matters related to the transport sector were discussed in detail.

The meeting was attended by SMTA Board members, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, Managing Director SMTA Behzad Memon, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and other concerned officials.

It was decided to complete the necessary technical and administrative procedures for the establishment of a logistics park and the purchase of 500 EV buses and seek approval from the Sindh Cabinet.

On the occasion, Sharjeel Memon said that the establishment of a logistics park by the Sindh government would be a revolutionary step for the citizens of Karachi. The construction of the park would help significantly reduce the pressure of heavy traffic in the city, while the project would also play an important role in developing the transport and logistics sector in the province along modern lines, he added.

The minister directed the concerned authorities to complete the necessary technical and administrative procedures for the projects at the earliest so that further steps could be taken in a timely manner for their implementation.

He said that further expansion of the modern public transport system was among the priorities of the Sindh government.
