NEW DELHI, July 22: The man arrested in Kenya on Thursday and hailed in India as the capture of a key suspect in several bomb blasts in Indian cities, was not the one authorities in New Delhi were looking for.

Press Trust of India quoted Kenyan police as saying that the arrested man was in fact a West African national, and not Indian terror suspect Syed Abdul Karim alias Tunda. Kenyan media reports said he had been handed over to the FBI.

Indian media reports had claimed that Karim was the founder of the Laskhar-i-Taiba in India. He was wanted for several blasts in Mumbai, Delhi and other places in the country during 1993-98, they said.

AFP adds: A suspected rebel commander accused of staging over two dozen deadly attacks on tourists and other targets in occupied Kashmir has been arrested, police said in Srinagar.

Police identified the arrested man as Mudasir Gujari, alias Raju, and said he was a senior leader of Lashkar-i-Taiba.
