NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The official vehicle of the Miramshah assistant commissioner came under fire in the Hadi area of Mirali tehsil here on Sunday, police said.
The assistant commissioner, Abdul Qayum, was not travelling in the vehicle. However, his children and other family members were on board and remained unharmed, according to police sources.
The vehicle was going from Miramshah to Bannu.
Police said that unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle from an unknown direction, with one bullet hitting the vehicle.
Police said an investigation had been launched to determine the direction from which the firing took place and identify those responsible.
Officials are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident occurred on a day when a weekly curfew is imposed in various parts of North Waziristan as part of security measures. Movement of civilians is restricted during the curfew, while security is tightened along major roads and in sensitive areas.
The targeting of an official vehicle during curfew hours has raised security concerns, particularly as the vehicle was carrying members of the assistant commissioner’s family.
