MANSEHRA: A man was killed, and five others were injured in a road accident in Mansehra, while a boy was buried alive under a heavy rock in Lower Kohistan on Sunday.

A passenger coach travelling from Lahore to Skardu fell into a deep ravine after its driver lost control over the vehicle on the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road in the Jaba area near here.

The rescuers and residents rushed to the scene and, after hectic efforts, retrieved all the injured and shifted them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced Zeezim Abbas, 33, of Multan dead.

According to doctors, the injured, including Mohammad Yasin of Faisalabad and Haris Mukhtar, Shari Nawaz and Mohammad Junaid, all from Lahore, were referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

The body was shifted to Multan after doctors completed the medico-legal formalities.

In another incident in the Pattan area of Lower Kohistan, a young boy was buried alive under a heavy rock that rolled down from a nearby hillside.

“Our team rushed to the scene and, after hectic efforts lasting around an hour, dug beneath the giant rock and retrieved the body,” Johairdad Shah, DSP (headquarters), Lower Kohistan, told reporters.

He said Ghaniur Rehman, along with his companions, had gone swimming in a local stream and was sitting on the riverside when a giant rock suddenly rolled down and buried him alive.

He said police shifted the victim to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Pattan, where doctors pronounced him dead. The body was later handed over to his family.
