BAHAWALPUR: Kahror Pacca police registered a murder case against two constables for allegedly torturing a man to death.

Police said the case against constables Muhammad Khan and Aurangzeb was registered on the complaint of Pitras Masih, an employee of the Kahror Pacca Municipal Committee and a resident of Church Colony.

In his complaint, Pitras Masih alleged that on Aug 22, he was travelling to another village along with his brother Razaq Masih, his deceased son Daud and two children. When they reached Jalianwala Bridge over Chhar Canal, constables Muhammad Khan and Aurangzeb arrived and stopped Daud.

The complainant alleged that the constables searched Daud and, when he resisted, they subjected him to torture and kicked him in the abdomen. As a result, Daud fell into the canal and drowned. Police have yet to arrest the two constables.

However, Lodhran police PRO said the deceased was a suspected drug peddler and that when police attempted to arrest him, he jumped into the canal to avoid arrest. He drowned because the canal was around 15 feet deep, the PRO claimed.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 officials and divers retrieved Daud’s body from the canal after around 30 hours of search. The body was recovered from a point about 18 kilometres from where he had allegedly drowned and was handed over to his family.

ENCOUNTERS: Police claimed to have arrested two criminals in injured condition after separate encounters in Vehari and Lodhran districts on Sunday.

According to the police PRO, in the first encounter, a team from Mitroo police station was conducting routine night patrolling in the area when it spotted a suspected motorcyclist near Mauza Bhidda. The police team challenged the suspect and ordered him to surrender, but he allegedly opened fire at the police and attempted to flee on his motorcycle.

While being chased by the police, the suspect reportedly collided with an iron pole and fell to the ground, sustaining injuries. The police party overpowered and arrested him in an injured condition.

The suspect was identified as Koora Khan, a resident of Muzaffargarh. Police said he was a proclaimed offender in a dacoity case registered in Khanewal and was also wanted in several cases in Khanewal, Multan, Muzaffargarh and Vehari districts.

SHO Mitroo Mirza Husnain Abbas shifted the injured suspect to a hospital for medical treatment. A case was registered against him, and an illegal weapon was also recovered from his possession.

In another encounter within the limits of Kahror Pacca police station in Lodhran district, a police patrolling team spotted two suspects riding a motorcycle near a canal and ordered them to surrender. The suspects allegedly opened fire at the police, who retaliated.

During the exchange of fire, one suspect sustained injuries and was arrested, while his accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Police identified the injured suspect as Imam Baksh and claimed that he was wanted in as many as 27 cases involving dacoity, robbery and attacks on police stations in different districts of the Multan and Bahawalpur divisions.

The injured suspect was shifted to hospital for treatment. Kahror Pacca police registered a case against him and his fleeing accomplice.

SUCCUMBS TO BURNS: A shopkeeper, who suffered critical burns in a gas cylinder blast four days ago, succumbed to his injuries.

According to Mailsi police and Rescue 1122 officials, three people, including shopkeeper Shair Muhammad, his son Aun Muhammad and a customer, Shafi, suffered serious burns in a gas cylinder explosion during the decanting process at the shop at Chak No. 119/WB near Mitroo in Mailsi tehsil.

The injured were shifted to the Mailsi THQ Hospital where Shair Muhammad succumbed to his burns on Sunday. The other two victims remain under treatment at the hospital.

Mailsi police have so far taken no legal action against the deceased shopkeeper. Officials said they were waiting for the injured victims to recover and return to the shop before proceeding with further action.
