HYDERABAD: Activists of the component parties of the Sindh Action Committee (SAC) brought out the “Wahdat-i-Sindh March” on Saturday evening, rejecting a division of Sindh and creation of new provinces in the country.
The rally started from Ponam Chowk and culminated at a section of the Hyderabad Bypass near Wadhu Wah main gate.
Leaders of SAC’s component parties led the rally, blocking the bypass, which connects the Indus and national highways.
Sindh United Party’s acting president Roshan Buriro said that Sindhis would not let anyone “dissect” Sindh and those planning any such division were enemies of the province and Pakistan. He said that Sindh was facing testing times as “PPP and PML-N and other powerful forces” were hatching conspiracies against Sindh’s geography. Controversial Jalalpur canal was made operational while disputed canals were only “put on hold,” he added.
Participants accuse PPP, PML-N of hatching conspiracy to disintegrate Sindh
Awami Tehreek president Wasand Thari said that the plan for new provinces was aimed at usurping Sindh’s lands, resources and water. He also termed the education city a plan for “occupation” and claimed that the PPP government had started displacing Sindhis from Karachi “under a bargain”.
He also accused the PPP of compromising over Sindh’s integrity to win the prime ministerial slot for Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. He alleged that the PPP was hand in glove with those undemocratic forces planning division of Sindh. He said that institutions were crossing their limit by commenting on new provinces. He demanded action under Article 6 against those who were part of the conspiracy of new provinces.
Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Riaz) chairman Riaz Ali Chandio said that Pakistan was ruled by Punjab and added that “God has created Sindh and no entity can undo it.” Sindhi people were peaceful and they were ready to defend Sindh’s integrity. Nobody would be allowed to usurp the land of Sindh in the name of corporate farming, he added.
Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) Secretary General Mazhar Rahujo said that rulers’ conspiracy against provinces was in fact a conspiracy against Pakistan because they wanted to “create a new Israel”. He said that 80 million Sindhis would resist all such conspiracies and plans. He said that all resources of Sindh had been usurped.
Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Bashir (JSQM-B) Chairman Dr Niaz Kalani termed the rally the first phase of the struggle to protect Sindh’s demography. Millions would take to the streets to defend their land and its resources, he said, adding that Sindhis consider Urdu-speaking people as their brothers if they consider Sindh their homeland.
National Party Sindh president Taj Marri said those talking about new administrative units were apparently “not interested” in running the country.
Activist Jami Chandio said that Sindh was not an entity that could be divided. He said Sindh’s unity would safeguard its resources, water and land, adding that the exploitation of Sindh’s water would not be allowed. He said no anti-Sindh decisions were acceptable and vowed that the people of Sindh would lead from the front.
