KHYBER: The Khyber police authorities have barred cops from uploading their pictures in uniform on social media and directed them not to indulge in such activities.
In a notification, district police officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmad directed policemen to refrain from uploading their photos in uniform as such activities were aimed at personal promotion.
The notification said that the police uniform represented official status of a police official and thus the police force shall refrain from using their photographs in uniform for purposes other than their official responsibilities and activities.
The DPO directed the subordinate officials to strictly abide by the new regulations and show due respect and regard to their official uniform.
The directives were issued at a time when some disgruntled police officials had established a protest camp in Jamrud demanding that the government to introduce a service structure for them.
The protesting policemen had threatened to stop wearing their official uniform and revert to the decades-old Khasadar uniform if their demands were not accepted.
Meanwhile, transporters carrying the Afghan families to Afghanistan via the Torkham border accused the customs officials of demanding bribes from them at the Michni Check Post near the border crossing.
They alleged that they were threatened with dire consequences and stopped from crossing the border for refusing to pay bribes.
They further accused the customs staff of demanding Rs1,000 from each vehicle for issuance of entry and exit passes to them despite being cleared after electronic and manual scanning and issuance of gate pass.
However, the claims could not be verified.
