KARACHI: A lawyer and an estate agent were shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in North Karachi, police said on Wednesday.

Sir Syed SHO Irfan Asif said that Advocate Shakeel Majeed Shaikh, 40, and Haroon Shabbir, 35, were heading some place on a motorcycle late on Tuesday night when assailants, also on two-wheelers, opened fire on them in Sector-11 and fled.

They sustained critical bullet wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where they were shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road where they died.

Karachi Bar demands arrest of killers within 48 hours

West DIG Irfan Ali Baloch told Dawn that it appeared to be a targeted killing incident but its exact motive was yet to be ascertained.

He said both victims were involved in property dealing and they both were targets of the killers.

Lawyers boycott courts

On Wednesday, the legal fraternity boycotted judicial proceedings at the City Courts over the targeted killing of Advocate Shaikh, demanding that the killers be arrested forthwith.

The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) described the incident as an attack on the whole legal community.

The KBA also demanded that the authorities identify and arrest the killers and their facilitators and produce them before a court of law within 48 hours.
