BANNU: A suicide attack bid targeting a security forces’ vehicle was foiled on Tuesday in Janikhel Malikhel area of Bannu. However, two security personnel sustained injuries in the incident.
According to local sources, a suicide attacker travelling in a rickshaw attempted to target a security forces’ vehicle near a school. Security personnel responded promptly and neutralised the attacker before he could reach his target, averting a major loss of life.
Sources said two security personnel were injured in the attack and were immediately shifted to CMH Bannu for medical treatment. The injured personnel were identified as sepoys Zeeshan and Khairuddin.
Following the incident, security was further tightened in the area, while investigations into the attack are underway.
Meanwhile, Majlis-i-Askari Karwan has claimed responsibility for the suicide blast targeting a security forces’ vehicle in the Malikhel area.
According to sources, the group issued a statement claiming responsibility for the suicide attack.
The sources identify Akhtar Mohammad Khalil as the leader of the outfit, who is reportedly currently based in Afghanistan.
The outfit is described as a Pakistani Taliban faction that has drawn attention in recent months due to its activities.
Meanwhile, a suspected sabotage plot was foiled near the University of Science and Technology, Bannu, after police recovered explosive material from the area.
The SHO Township police station, along with his team, cordoned off the area. The Bomb Disposal Unit safely neutralised the explosives.
