GUJRAT: A man allegedly killed his wife, a mother of seven children, and her alleged friend, at his house on Eidgah Road in Lalamusa city over ‘honour.’
As per police and local sources, the suspect, Afzaal Ahmed, would sell corncobs and other food items on a cart in Lalamusa city, residing on the first floor of a rented house, along with his wife Shumaila (32) and seven children. On the second floor, Husnain (22), a resident of Noshehra Virkan town of Gujranwala, was residing.
They say that Afzaal had gone out of the town and when he returned home around Friday midnight, he spotted Husnain, hiding in his house. Both had an altercation, during which Afzaal allegedly stabbed his wife Shumaila (32) and Husnain (22) and hit them with a club. The woman and the youth died on the spot. The suspect fled the house.
The incident was reported to the police on Sunday by neighbours and a team visited the spot, collected evidence and shifted the bodies to hospital for autopsy.
Initial police investigations found that the suspect had suspicion about his wife’s relations with Husnain. That’s why, he had left his children at his sister’s house in Jhelum a day before the incident and then returned home late in the night in a surprise move, the police says. Lalamusa city police have registered a case against the suspect under sections 302 and 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the report of Raheel Ahmed, a brother of the deceased woman.
A spokesman for Gujrat police says the suspect had been arrested and police have started investigation.
