AGP forms committees to amend CPC, CrPC

LAHORE: Advocate General of Punjab (AGP) Barrister Zafarullah has initiated the process of legal reforms by constituting committees to propose amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

A nine-member committee, headed by Additional Advocate General Rana Shamshad Khan, has been constituted to review and recommend amendments to the CPC.

Provincial law officers, including Chaudhry Tanvir Akhtar, Awais Ahmed Qazi and Ms Shehzeen Abdullah and Omar Farooq Khan, are among the members of the committee.

Similarly, a nine-member committee, headed by Additional Advocate General Nasir Chohan, has been formed to review the CrPC.

The members of the committee include Mudassar Naveed Chattha, Khalida Parveen, Sittar Sahil, Shahid Nawab Cheema and Muhammad Yar Gondal.

Both committees have been directed to submit comprehensive reports and recommendations at the earliest.

The committees have been constituted to identify and remove shortcomings in the existing laws and help expedite the delivery of justice. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had appointed AGP Barrister Zafarullah as chairman of the administrative and judicial reforms committee.
