BAHAWALPUR: Kahror Pacca Saddar police arrested four men, including three brothers of a woman, for torturing and poisoning her to death in the name of honour in Lodhran district on Thursday.
According to the Lodhran police spokesperson, three brothers, Ijaz, Yasean, Shabear and their brother-in-law Aslam, had suspicion that their sister Kausar Bibi had a relationship with someone. At this, they allegedly tortured her and poisoned her to death.
The suspects declared Kausar’s death as suicide and prepared her funeral.
Saddar police received a tip-off and stopped the funeral. They took the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
According to police officials, initial post-mortem report showed signs of torture on Kausar’s body and poisonous substances in her abdomen.
The deceased was buried after the post-mortem.
DROWNS: A young boy Muzamil (20) drowned while catching fish in River Sutlej while his friend was rescued by the locals.
The 1122 rescuers and police handed over his body to the deceased’s family.
OBITUARY: Retired Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Chaudhry, brother-in-law of Bahawalpur Dawn Correspondent A. Majeed Gill, died after a protracted illness in California (US). He was over 93.
Dr N.A. Chaudhry, author of physics books, had been chairman of the Department of Solid State Physics in Punjab University, Lahore. After retirement, he settled down in the US.
He leaves behind a son and a daughter while his wife and a daughter had earlier died there.
His funeral prayers will be offered after Friday prayers in California and he would be laid to rest there.
