KASUR: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly axed to death in the name of honour in the Jalo village on Thursday.

Police claimed that Amina Bibi had allegedly eloped with a man of the same village and contracted marriage with him against the wishes of her family some 15 days back.

Later, a village council, headed by a local political figure, decided to return Amina Bibi to her family, and as a punishment, the man’s family would give the hand of a woman in marriage to a member of Amina Bibi’s family.

On Thursday, police claimed that Amina Bibi had an argument with her family members, who allegedly attacked her with an axe. She suffered serious injuries and succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to a hospital.

Police are looking into the matter, including the role of the village council.
