TOBA TEK SINGH: A young girl was allegedly killed in the name of honour in Chak 170/10R of Khanewal district by her father, brothers and uncles.
The Khanewal Saddar police claimed that Iqra Bibi had contracted court marriage with Muhammad Tariq of her village three days ago against the consent of her parents.
Police claimed her father Falaksher sent a message to Tariq that he was ready to reconcile and he would arrange a rukhsati function for his daughter and Iqra returned to her parents’ house. However, police claimed that her father, two brothers and an uncle strangled her to death and told everyone that she had died of electrocution.
Police said that when they were informed of the incident, DSP Saeed Ahmad Sial and SHO Ramzan Gill reached the house and took her body into custody.
The body was shifted to the Khanewal DHQ Hospital for autopsy, where doctors confirmed that she was strangled to death and a rope’s mark was also visible on her neck.
Over this, her father Falaksher was arrested and police were conducting raids to arrest her brothers and uncle after registering a murder case on the complaint of her husband Muhammad Tariq.
MURDER: A farmer was allegedly killed by another farmer over a farmland ownership dispute on Thursday in Chak 747 GB of Pirmahal tehsil.
According to the Arouti police, Mardan Khan and Allah Rakha had quarrelled over the dispute and Allah Rakha allegedly attacked Mardan Khan with a chopper. Police further said that when Tahir Zaman and Muhammad Rashid attempted to save the deceased, the accused also attacked them. All three men were critically wounded in the attack.
Police said that they were shifted to the Pirmahal THQ Hospital where Mardan Khan succumbed to his injuries. Police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, in Chak 744 GB in Pirmahal tehsil, a youth injured his mother with a knife.
The Bhussi police claimed that accused Khizer Hayat was a drug addict and when he asked his mother Fatima Bibi (55) to give him money, she refused. Over this, he allegedly attacked and injured her.
She was referred to the Toba DHQ hospital from the Pirmahal THQ hospital due to her critical condition.
ADB TEAM: An Asian Development Bank (ADB) team, comprising Noriko Sato, Dr Ahmad Nawaz, Dr Amanullah and Dr AD Babar visited the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Thursday to discuss the ADB-supported agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions project affiliated with the Punjab Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Project (P-CLAMP).
The delegation held a meeting with concerned officials headed by UAF VC Dr Zulfiqar Ali and the project leader Dr Abdul Wakeel.
A press release said the project was a pioneering study in Pakistan aimed at developing country-specific GHG emission factors for eight major crops. The findings are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s national GHG inventory, support the updating of Pakistan’s nationally determined contributions (NDCs), and create opportunities for the country’s agriculture sector to access emerging global carbon markets while contributing to international climate and environmental commitments.
