LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Wednesday arrested seven suspects allegedly involved in defrauding a citizen of Rs14.4 million on the promise of arranging a Canadian work permit.
According to the NCCIA, the suspects were operating a social media page titled “Canada Work Permit Visa”, through which they claimed to offer work permits and employment opportunities in Canada.
The page also displayed numbers for potential applicants to contact the operators.
It claimed that Faisalabad resident Muhammad Younis approached the suspects through the page after expressing interest in obtaining a Canadian work permit.
The suspects assured him that they could arrange a Canadian work permit and visa and subsequently demanded payments at different stages of the purported process.
The NCCIA said: “The suspects used fabricated and misleading information to gain the complainant’s confidence and allegedly persuaded him to transfer a total of Rs14.4 million into various bank accounts.”
Following the complaint, the Faisalabad NCCIA launched an investigation and collected evidence related to the alleged fraud and financial transactions.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Asghar, Muhammad Nauman, Jan Muhammad, Umar Usman, Muhammad Huzaifa and Abdul Rauf.
