BAJAUR: Two women suffered wounds in a bomb explosion in a pile of dry wood in Nawagai tehsil here on Thursday.
Police and locals said the incident occurred in Shah Khani area of Charmang valley, within the limits of Charmang police station.
SHO Sher Zamin confirmed the incident, saying that the women from Zakir Khan’s family were collecting firewood from a pile located outside of their house for making lunch when an explosive device hidden in the stockpile went off with a big bang. He said that the explosion critically wounded two women, identified as Sanam Bibi, 20, and Satara Bibi, 25.
Official said a police team immediately reached the area to assist local residents in transporting the wounded persons to district headquarters hospital Khar. “We have immediately visited the site to ascertain circumstances of the incident and collected evidences besides helping residents in transporting wounded to the Khar hospital,” he said.
The official said it was not yet clear what was the nature of the bomb, who had planted the device, and what were the motives. Mansoor Khan, a spokesperson for the district police, said that an investigation into the incident had been launched on the directions of DPO Khan Zeb Momand to ascertain who planted the device and the motive behind it.
“We are also investigating whether the explosive device that caused the explosion was planted by someone as an act of sabotage or was brought there unintentionally,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, local residents who were greatly frightened by the explosion have called for a proper investigation to expose those involved in the incident.
