PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday stressed the need for implementation of decisions taken by the National Security Committee (NSC) and the National Security Plan to strengthen the province’s security framework.
He called for coordinated and result-oriented strategy involving all stakeholders to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace in the province.
The governor, during a visit to the residence of martyred DSP Diyar Khan, urged the prime minister to convene a meeting of the Apex Committee in KP to review security situation and devise an effective response.
In a statement issued from his office, the governor expressed concern over recent incidents in Hangu, Bajaur, Dir and Swat districts and stated that the authorities should take timely measures instead of waiting for a major incident to occur.
He maintained that peace was a prerequisite for political stability, elections and economic development and urged the federal and provincial governments to set aside differences and work jointly to address security challenges facing the province.
Mr Kundi called for resolution of political disputes through dialogue rather than street protests or confrontation, saying the provincial government should engage with the federal government and other stakeholders to develop a common approach to maintaining peace.
