SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, hosted its ‘1st Provincial Moot Court Competition’, aimed at strengthening practical legal education across Sindh.
A press release issued by the university on Tuesday said the two-day competition was organised by a law firm, M.H. Larik & Associates, in collaboration with Salu and the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto School of Law.
The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of students, faculty members and lawyers.
More than 19 teams from across the province are participating and arguing the fictional case of Arslan Khan versus The State.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Yousuf Khushk, who graced the occasion as chief guest, appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders and welcomed the enthusiastic participation of teams from various institutions, including the affiliated colleges.
In his address, Dr Khushk described the competition as a significant step towards strengthening practical legal education.
He emphasised that such competitions help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real courtroom practice by sharpening students’ legal research, advocacy, critical thinking, drafting and communication skills.
Reaffirming Salu’ commitment to producing confident, competent and justice-oriented law graduates, the vice chancellor expressed hope that the competition would become an annual tradition and prepare students to compete effectively at national and international levels.
Senior Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik also spoke on the occasion and expressed his pride in organising the competition, acknowledging the vice chancellor’s full support and encouragement in making the initiative possible.
Prominent figures in attendance included Prof Taj Lashari, Dr Shabana Kausar Jatoi, Dr Ali Raza Lashari, Javed Bhayo, Advocate Muhammad Tariq Mahesar, Advocate Syed Amjad Ali Shah, Advocate Ahsanullah Narejo, Advocate Ihsanullah Butro and Dr Sahib Oad.
The competition continues with great enthusiasm and is set to conclude tomorrow.
The initiative is expected to encourage similar academic activities in the future and provide law students with invaluable hands-on experience in advocacy and courtroom practice.
