SARGODHA: Five members of the same family were seriously injured after the roof of a room caved in due to heavy rain here on Thursday night.
According to Rescue 1122, during a severe storm in Sargodha city, part of the roof of a house in Remount Depot 10 Chak on Jhang Road collapsed after a crack appeared in its wall. As a result, five members of the family, including a husband and wife and their child, were seriously injured. They were shifted to the DHQ Teaching Hospital, where the condition of two people was said to be critical.
Meanwhile, low-lying areas of Sargodha city and its surroundings were submerged due to heavy rain and rainwater mixed with sewer flooded the roads and entered buildings.
The affected areas also faced intermittent power outages during the night.
As much as 65mm of rainfall had been recorded with the administration intensifying dewatering operations on Friday. The deputy commissioner visited the city and reviewed the drainage operations at various disposal stations, highways, markets and low-lying areas. He was told that Wasa teams had started emergency operations as soon as the rain started and all disposal stations remained active while the drainage operation was still ongoing without interruption. Moreover, the officials said traffic had been restored at all the important highways and critical places of the city.
SHOT DEAD: Two persons were allegedly shot dead in a clash over a fight between children.
According to the police, Malik Nadeem and a passerby, Sheikh Bashar, were seriously injured in the firing by men from the Dogar group over a minor fight between children in the Rehman Pura area of Sargodha city.
Malik Nadeem died on the way to the hospital and Sheikh Bashir succumbed to his injuries at the DHQ Teaching Hospital.
The Urban Area Police shifted the bodies for postmortem and were busy investigating the incident.
