PESHAWAR: Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Omer Ahmed Bukhari on Tuesday visited the Central Police Office (CPO), where he was briefed on the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Gen Bukhari was received by Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior police officials, according to a statement issued here.
On this occasion, a police contingent presented a guard of honour to the corps commander, who also laid a floral wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the elevation of their ranks.
Later, at a high-level meeting, IGP Hameed briefed Gen Bukhari on the overall law and order situation in the province, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence-based operations, foolproof security of sensitive installations and public places, the police’s modern command and control system, the use of drones and anti-drone technology, and operational preparedness to deal promptly with challenges faced by the police force.
He said that KP police were strictly adhering to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, extremism and all kinds of crime. He said that police were intensifying intelligence-based operations to thwart any potential terrorist attack before it occurs. “Modern technology is also being used to pursue terrorists on every front to uphold the writ of the state,” he said.
The IGP said that five districts in the province were being developed as model examples of modern, smart and people-friendly policing. “Smart surveillance, digital monitoring, modern investigation systems, transparent service delivery and intelligence-led policing will be further strengthened there. This successful model will be extended to the entire province in phases,” he said.
He also briefed the corps commander on the ongoing welfare measures for the police force. He highlighted comprehensive initiatives to enhance the professional capacity of police officers and personnel, modern training, protective equipment, residential and medical facilities, support for the families of martyrs, welfare projects, and measures to boost the morale of personnel.
The Peshawar corps commander commended the bravery, unparalleled sacrifices, professional competence, and unwavering commitment of KP police against terrorism, protection of public life and property, and ongoing measures for police welfare. He expressed full confidence in the performance of the police force.
At the conclusion of the visit, the corps commander met with police personnel and reaffirmed the resolve to jointly eradicate the menace of terrorism.
He stated that the Pakistan Army and KP police, through cooperation, coordinated strategy and modern resources, will continue their operations with full force until the complete elimination of terrorism, extremism and anti-peace elements, and will ensure the protection of public life and property at all costs.
