LAKKI MARWAT: Two terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed in an exchange of fire with police in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday night, a police official said.

The official said that police swung into action when they received information about the presence of a suspicious vehicle with tinted glass at Gandi Chowk.

He said that the police personnel immediately arrived at the scene.

“Upon seeing the police, terrorists attempted to flee in the vehicle and opened fire,” he maintained.

He said in retaliatory fire, two terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed, while a third terrorist managed to escape in an injured condition.

“A pursuit is currently underway as the Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) commandoes and a police contingent have been deployed in the area for a search operation,” he added.

The official said that police recovered weapons, a flag of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, burqas (veils) and other suspicious items from the vehicle.

“An investigation is underway regarding the terrorists’ potential target,” he said, adding that it is speculated that they were en route to carry out a major act of sabotage but were intercepted through timely police action.

He said that the bodies of the slain terrorists had been taken into custody, and the process of identifying them had begun.
