State land worth Rs1.40bn retrieved

SAHIWAL: Sixty-nine kanal and 13 marla state agriculture land worth Rs1.40bn was retrieved from illegal occupations near Ada Gamber, Chak 52/5-L, tehsil Sahiwal.

The joint operation was carried out by the Punjab Enforcement Regulatory Authority (Pera), revenue department, police and district administration.

Noman Qaisar of Pera told Dawn that the land had been unlawfully occupied for the last two decades by Rahmat Ali, Mujahid Amin, Khursheed, Fazal Baloch and Muhammad Rafiq.

The encroachers had built structures, shops, animal ponds and an outhouse there. The district administration along with Pera had developed a strategy to get this land vacated.

SHOT DEAD: A young girl was shot dead by unidentified suspects at Chak 95/12-L. Shah Kot Police registered a murder case against unidentified persons on the complaint of her father, Riyasat Ali.

Amina, daughter of Riyasat Ali, lived with her family on the outskirts of the village. After dinner, she went to the fields to use the washroom but did not return. Her mother, Fozia Saleem, grew anxious and asked her husband to search for her.

Meanwhile, the family heard gunshots. They rushed out and found Amina lying dead with two bullet wounds in her abdomen and chest.
