US team, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz explore trade avenues

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met a 30-member United States business delegation here on Saturday.

The chief minister accorded a warm welcome to the visiting delegation, which comprised prominent business leaders representing the medical, minerals, manufacturing, information technology, industry, hospitality, energy, electronics and marketing sectors.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to further promote mutual investment, strengthen economic ties and expand sustainable trade partnerships between the Punjab government and the US business community.

The delegation invited Maryam Nawaz to visit the United States, which she accepted.

The delegation was given a detailed briefing on the PIVOT programme. The chief minister also apprised the visiting business leaders of the reforms introduced by the Punjab government to facilitate ease of doing business and improve the investment climate.

The two sides explored various economic opportunities aimed at promoting investment and enhancing bilateral partnership between Punjab and the United States.

Ms Nawaz also expressed keen interest in acquiring home dialysis machines to further improve healthcare services in the province.

The delegation expressed interest in cooperation in shrimp farming. Secretary SIFC Jameel Qureshi briefed the delegation on matters relating to investment and collaboration.

The delegation observed that Pakistan possessed one of the world’s youngest populations with enormous potential that should be fully utilised.
