RAHIM YAR KHAN: The station house officer and a sub-inspector of the Kot Samaba Police Station were arrested while total seven policemen of the station were booked for the death of a man in custody.
According to details, Kot Samaba police had called a woman with five other persons, including Amjad Ali, to the police station for interrogation in a murder case on Sunday. While five other suspects were released, Amjad was kept behind at the police station.
On Monday, some relatives of Amjad contacted lawyer Mirza Amin regarding the case, suspecting that Kot Samaba Station House Officer (SHO) Syed Naqash Raza Shah had killed Amjad.
Amin told this correspondent that when he contacted the police to ask about the whereabouts of Amjad, police expressed ignorance for three days.
On Wednesday, when Amin, other lawyers and family of Amjad protested outside the police station, they were told that Amjad had died after torture.On Thursday dozens of persons with Amin again protested against the police after the details were revealed that Amjad was killed in a torture cell and his body was sent to Lathani gang in Katcha Rajwani area from where it was sent to Sadiqabad.
Police later announced that Amjad’s body had been recovered from the area of Basti Ranghay Khan.District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Ali Sammon said police had made a major breakthrough and recovered the body of Amjad from the fields of Basti Ranjha Khan in the limits of Sadiqabad Saddar, based on the accused’s identification and an FIR had already been registered and police officers had been taken into custody. He said the investigation of this case was being conducted with complete transparency.
