RAWALPINDI: The body of a man who was swept away while crossing Leh Nullah in Bahria Town’s Phase IV on Wednesday was found by Rescue 1122 crew after more than four hours of effort.

A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said the man, aged 32, was swept away in Leh Nullah while crossing it.

After the incident was reported, Rescue 1122 divers and six emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene to start the rescue operation.

During the operation, the missing man’s body was recovered from Leh Nullah near Pirwadhai Bridge, Dhoke Dalal Road.

Later, the body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has been placed on alert in view of the rains in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, urging people to exercise extreme caution during the monsoon season and avoid crossing rivers.

Parents should never let their children go near drains and electric poles during the rain.

Drivers were urged to move at a slower speed during rain, while people should move to safer places before urban flooding.

According to the advisory, people were asked not to go under weak and dilapidated roofs during rain and not to visit tourist destinations due to the risk of heavy rains and cloudbursts.

In case of any emergency, immediately report to the rescue helpline 1122, the spokesman said.

On the other hand, the New Town police have conducted a field survey and found encroachments at Leh Nullah at New Katarian.

During the survey, it was observed that a buffalo shelter (Derra) has been established in the vicinity of Leh Nullah.

As per the prevailing weather forecasts regarding heavy monsoon rains and the possibility of a rise in the water level of Leh Nullah, there is a serious risk that the buffaloes and the shelter may be swept away, resulting in the loss of livestock and property.

The field survey team suggested that the authorities concerned take immediate legal and administrative action to remove the encroachment and relocate the livestock to a safer place to prevent any untoward incident.
