KARACHI: The younger son of senior journalist Sohail Sangi has been missing since Monday and his family has approached the Karachi police for his recovery.

In an application addressed to Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, Mr Sangi said that his younger son, Fayyaz Ahmed Janjhi, is an assistant director at the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra). He had left his office at Ayesha Manzil on July 20 at around 6pm but “he did not reach home”.

He said his family had tried to contact him continuously, but his phone was switched off.

Urging authorities to register a complaint of him going missing and locate him, the applicant said his son or the rest of the family had no enmity with anyone.

Mr Janjhi’s elder brother, Riaz Sohail, who is also a senior journalist at BBC, told Dawn that the IGP had assigned the case to SSP-Central Imran Khan.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and the Karachi Press Club have expressed their concerns over the incident and demanded that the Sindh government expedite their efforts to recover Mr Janjhi safely.
