HARIPUR: Residents of Paniyan village here blocked the GT Road on Tuesday to protest the murder of a youth and injuries to his two brothers.

The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of the accused nominated in the FIR and action against the Paniyan police station officials for allegedly supporting the accused.

Police quoted Mohsin, a resident of Mohallah Sundar Khani, as saying that on Monday night he and his brother, Shoaib, were on their way home when they saw an accused, Jehanzen, and his 10 unknown accomplices beating their third brother, Faizan, 21, with clubs and other blunt weapons, leaving him critically injured.

The complaint said he and Shoaib were also injured in the attack. He said that the attackers were from Kohistan district and currently living in a rented house here.

The complainant said Faizan was taken to the trauma centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mr Mohsin alleged that the Paniyan police were supporting the accused.

However, the protesters dispersed when MNA Babar Nawaz Khan informed them that three of the accused had been arrested. The villagers cleared the road on the condition that the remaining accused would soon be arrested.

The PML-N MNA expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

The arrested men were produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them to the police for two days.
