KARACHI, July 16: Taking note of the reports that the person killed in an encounter with Lyari Task Force on July 12 in Gadap was not the notorious outlaw Mashooq Brohi but someone else, Sindh IGP Jahangir Mirza has directed DIG Police (Operations) Mushtaq Shah to get the body identified by the family of the deceased and hand over it to the next of kin at the earliest.

Sindh IGP Jahangir Mirza also constituted an inquiry committee, headed by Additional IG Police Tariq Jamil, to probe into the allegations that it was a staged encounter and the person killed was not Mashooq Brohi. The inquiry committee was also directed to look into the circumstances of alleged arrest of the deceased by the police a few days prior to the encounter.

The other members of inquiry committee are DIG Investigation-II Mir Zubair Mahmood, Sultan Ali Khawaja, TPO Shah Faisal and DPO Jamshoro. The chairman of the inquiry committee has been empowered to select any other police officer as the member of the committee for a quick and meaningful probe into the allegations.

The committee has been ordered to complete the probe and submit findings to the IG office within four days.—PPI
