KHAIRPUR, July 15: Five people were killed and one injured over an old enmity in police areas of Faiz Mohammad Bindo and Babarloi on Saturday.

Three people — Abdullah Katpar, Loung Katpar and Soobal Katpar — were on their way on a motorcycle from their village Mohammad Bux to Pir Jo Goth.

When they reached near the Khambra village, armed men who were hiding in a sugarcane field opened fire on them.

As a result, Abdullah, 35, and Loung, 50, died on the spot. Soobal was injured seriously.

The assailants escaped after committing the crime.

After two hours of the incident, armed men gunned down three people who were grazing cattle in the Vetari village in the Babarloi police area.

The deceased were identified as Basheer Khorkhani, his son, Wakeel Khorkhani, and nephew, Rano Khorkhani.

The attackers escaped from the scene. Post-mortems were conducted in Pir Jo Goth and Piryaloi hospitals.

The attack and the counter-attack were said to be a result of an old dispute.

The dispute was settled a year back after which a man, Pupoo Khorkhani, was killed in Kot Mir Mohammad.

No case was registered till the filing of the report. A tense situation prevailed in the area.
