Buildings dept, contractors at loggerheads

BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment police booked on Monday several contractors of the buildings department on charges of hurling threats, using abusive language, interfering in official duties and attempting to snatch official record.

The FIR has been registered on the complaint of Buildings Division-1 EXEN Imran Nazir.

In his complaint addressed to the DPO, the executive engineer alleged that due to closing of financial year 2026, office staff was working late in the office on June 19 when six nominated people–Arif Majeed, Mirza Mudasir Baig, Mirza Mansoor Baig, Younus Bukhairi, Kashif Mushtaq, Haider Shah -- along with some unknown persons threatened the staff on duty, used abusive language and interfered in official duty.

He further alleged that they tried to snatch official record. He added that on his emergency call police reached the scene but all fled.

On the other hand, the contractors, in a press release, alleged that they had protested engineer’s undue favour to some contractors who were given contracts of all immediate repairs and construction under “prompt payments” category.

They maintained that they had only demand for their due right which became their crime.

They urged Punjab C/W secretary, commissioner and deputy Commissioner, to hold an inquiry their allegations.

HELD: The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (PCNF), Bahawalpur region, claimed to have arrested drug pusher Muhammad Nadeem from Hasilpur and recovered from his possession narcotics worth one million rupees along with illicit arms from his possession.
