DELAYED PROJECT

DELAYED PROJECT: A few years ago, the government initiated the Dalbandin Master Plan to improve roads, drainage systems, sewerage lines and market area. Unfortunately, structural weaknesses in governance caused the project to remain frozen for many years. It regained some momentum when the public highlighted negligence on social media. This pressure led to the construction of a poorly built one-kilometre road in the market area, which deteriorated quickly. Even the first phase of the project is still incomplete, and the work done so far is of low quality. As a result, people continue to struggle with their commute. The project should be completed without further delay.

COMPLEX TERMINOLOGY: The level of language used in textbooks is an important educational decision, as it directly affects students’ ability to learn and understand concepts. The Sindh Social Studies textbook for grade six uses difficult terminology, especially in the chapter on human evolution. Students are introduced to complex terms, such as Australopithecus, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens, which are hard to understand and pro-nounce. This vocabulary is often beyond the comprehension level of many students, particularly those in government schools. As a result, students struggle to grasp the concepts and lose interest in the subject. The Sindh Education and Literacy Department should simplify the content.

FESTIVE FILTH: While Eidul Azha reminds us of our social values, it also exposes a lack of civic responsibility. Even the most developed cities of the country, such as Karachi, show indifference. Like previous years, the Eid this year has also left roads littered with animal waste, bones, blood and offal, spreading foul odour all around. Some underprivileged and neglected neighbourhoods of Karachi are continuously facing the worst of conditions. The authorities concerned should pay due attention to the matter.
