PESHAWAR: Jewellers in Peshawar’s historic Sarafa Bazaar observed a complete shutter-down strike on Tuesday in protest against new taxes imposed by the Federal Board of Revenue.

The striking jewellers criticised the FBR’s current taxation measures, describing them as harmful to the business community.

They said the newly imposed taxes were adversely affecting commercial activities and increasing pressure on traders. They urged the government to address the concerns of the business community and review what they termed controversial tax measures.

The traders also warned that if their demands were not accepted, they would expand the scope of their protest in the coming days.
